Mocktail, Momtail.. Whatever It Is, I Never Want To See It Again.

Behold, my drink of choice throughout this entire pregnancy:

plus

plus

equals:

Seltzer with a splash of cranberry and a lime wedge.

Yes, this might sound delicious to you now, but after drinking it for the last nine months with delicious dinners that warranted a glass (or two) of wine, my palate pretty much cringes at the thought of another glass. Do you know how embarassing it is to order this mouthful while your husband and dinner guests sip on thirty, fourty and fifty dollar bottles of wine? Sigh.

I am so sick and tired of cranberry juice. And grape juice. And the Motts Tropical Fruit Cocktail concoction that also mixes well with seltzer water. Don't get me wrong. I am no saint. I've indulged in a half-glass or two of Chardonnay. I have had my fair share of Classic Coca Cola's this pregnancy, but for the most part I've tried to satiate my carbonation cravings with seltzer water rather than high fructose syrup and caramel color. And er, wine.

Again. Just another reason why pregnancy only lasts so long...

Counting down the days until Baby Boy decides to make his appearance and out of celebration and with a hearty "Happy Birthday, Baby Boy!" Hubs and I finally get to enjoy my wedding gift to him, given almost three years ago, a 2003 bottle of Opus One. Mmmm..

  1. OMG, you're making me salivate. I have CRAVED some Coca Cola through my pregnancy too! Also wine, but I'm trying not to turn my kid into an alchi at such a young age. Anyway, Coke. Loves Loves Loves.

  3. I know the feeling! I traveled a lot for work during my pregnancy and there would be very expensive bottles of wine ordered while I sat there with a similar concoction. :( I did ginger ale and cranberry a lot and ginger ale with pomegranate juice. That was my favorite!

  5. I had to comment on this - I have two bottles of Opus One from my college graduation (can't remember the year.. of the wine, that is) - sitting in my parents' wine cellar, begging to be opened.. I cannot decide when to open them! Children are waaaay in my future - but I don't think I can wait til then for mine! (just have to hope my parents don't bust them open without me knowing.. heads will roll!)

Fingers crossed for a birthday for Baby Boy super-soon!

    Love

    Christine

  8. I actually do fruit juice and selzer water. Pinapple or orange juice work well. I would mix it up these last few weeks to make it more interesting. I try to do as much water as possible, but some days I just need some flavor! I am also a Coke classic junkie. I let myself have 1 a day.

  9. I miss wine too...and it's only been three months. Well, technically before I knew I was pregnant...we went wine tasting. My baby was screwed from its first week of life....

I'm currently into 7-up and grape juice...but I'm sure those will fade...as my lemonade obsession lasted a total of 2 days.

    But you're so close!!!

  10. Hahaha. My drink of choice has been a virgin mojito. Yeah. I've gotten a raised eyebrow from about 6 bartenders. They're like, "You KNOW that's just soda, mint, syrup and lime, right?" And I was all like, "Do you SEE this BELLY?"

With an active imagination, it gets the job done...but it helps to have a few sips of Hubby's red when no one's looking. Now that my babe is born I can't wait for a good cabernet and some sushi!

  13. Ohhh if you are looking to switch things up, try coconut water (you can find it in a co-op or whole foods). VitaCoco is my favorite. It's super healthy for you and tastes really yummy. Definitely helps in the summer if you can't drink :)
