You Know You're A Mom Of Two When...

.. the thought alone of having to run any sort of errand, especially one with too-small shopping carts (I'm looking at you, Hobby Lobby and Michaels) has you breaking out into hives and a cold sweat.

.. showers are no longer your "me time" and you end up with a 3ft. tall shower buddy each morning who doesn't understand the phrase "personal space" while your infant sleeps face down in your bed.

.. the three of you sit down for lunch at a restaurant table meant for six just so that you have extra space to shuffle around infant carriers and table accouterments and can distract inquisitive little toddler hands from exploring what's on your plate.

.. you're constantly reaching into the backseat and feeling for "legs" so that you know everyone is alive and accounted for.

.. speaking of your backseat, no more than one adult can ever ride with you somewhere because your backseat is full of car seats and kid crap.

.. you constantly find yourself typing away to both Dr. Google and Dr. Twitter because you have such an awful case of Mom-Brain from your firstborn that you can't for the life of you remember what is "normal" when it comes to all things newborn.

.. you no longer stare sympathetically at the mom juggling two babies in the checkout line at the grocery store but rather with empathy and even more so, you want to high five her and buy her a {very strong} drink, because "honey, you've been there."

.. you've given up fighting so many of the same "bears" with your oldest that you once insisted on winning. This includes and is not limited too what's for breakfast (lunch and dinner) and what makes up appropriate errand-running attire.

.. you swore up and down you were the busiest you've ever been in your whole entire life without a second in the day to breathe (let alone shower, eat and pee) with just one baby that you now just look back on those days (and yourself) and laugh incredulously at what you thought was busy.

.. in the last week you've muttered the phrase, "I'm never doing this again," and "oh they get along so well, why not have another" all in the same breath.

  3. How about how your house starts looking more like a daycare due to all the toddler and baby crap everywhere? HATE THAT.

Whole Foods is another place with stupid, tiny carts. Learned that the hard way!

  4. This is exactly my life right now! A newborn and two year old are a lot to handle at once! I'm always counting down the minutes until daddy comes home so I can either take a shower or enjoy a glass of wine!

  6. Hahaha I am CONSTANTLY feeling in my backseat for legs - I only have one child to "remember" but I'm always scared I've left him in the parking lot. And it's not enough to feel the carseat in the back - I have to actually touch Ben's shoulder/head/arm/leg in case he somehow crawled out of the carseat and into a parking lot...??? Crazy...

  8. Thank you so much for this! This sums my life up, only my kids are older now so throw in some punching, pinching, and screaming into the mix. I hate grocery shopping but now I'm the first to volunteer to go because it means a few minutes to just be alone

  9. I think EVERY store should have those awesome carts with a "car" attached to the front. Then I wouldn't dread it so much! My kids LOVE those!! I had to laugh at this post. SO SO TRUE. I could clean my house 208423958 times a day and there would still be cheese, goldfish, and crackers all over the floor, and toys all over their room! And one kid sounds so easy once you have 2! Oh, and I'm with you on having/not having another baby! I want to experience pregnancy, labor, and delivery again, but another baby? To take home??? Eh. If I could go from the hospital to an instant routine at home with 3, sure, I'd do it. But that newness/juggling/what-the-heck-was-i-thinking-having-another-child? Not so much. I'm torn, but I know right now that adding a third would be chaos. Maybe in a few months/years we'll revisit the idea :) Hang in there - once he starts sitting up and crawling and can interact with Carter on his own, it'll get easier :)

  11. How about: When that male elderly family member said 'grandma always said having 2 was no harder than having 1' you wanted to punch him in the face. But didn't. ;)

  12. I have a panic attack at the thought of running errands with just one child, I don't know what I will do if/when I ever have a second.

  14. Dying at Annie's comment ;) hahahahahaha.

And seriously. I had to re-read the restaurant one multiple times. YOU TAKE THEM TO RESTAURANTS ALONE!??!?!

    You're officially my hero.

  20. The shopping carts are what gets me. If I go somewhere with carts that only have one seat, I have to drag the stroller out AND push a cart. Only recently did I have the idea of buying and taking my own "seat belts" so I can strap them into the actual basket as opposed to the designated seat.

  22. Yes! I'm only a mama to one and YES to all of these. Especially the second to last - I always thought I was busy before but who was I kidding?!? And now you have two? Whoa mama - you're doing a great job! Carter and Maclane are lucky to have you as their mama!
