Just Keeping It Real...

This post was prompted by a series of comments left on Instagram.
Something about how, for having two kids, I seemingly have it all together.
I couldn't help but laugh.

The above picture was taken while getting ready for our neighbor's 4th birthday party.
Do not be fooled, Loyals. I do not have it all together.

This was the first time since having Maclane (3 weeks ago) that I curled my hair.

This was also the first time since having Maclane that I wore "real" clothes out of the house.

My upstairs hasn't been vacuumed in nearly a month.

There are piles and piles of folded laundry all over my house.

I'm (co) sleeping with Maclane in our guest room (and have been for two weeks) so that I don't bother The Husband during one of the thirty-seven-hundred nursing sessions I take part in over night.

I haven't cooked a family dinner since I don't even know when.

Most days? I don't shower until The Husband comes home from work... at 7pm.

By 7pm, I smell like curdled milk.

Carter and I watch roughly 6 and a half episodes of Curious George each day.

And approximately 37 minutes of either Shrek, Chicken Little or Madagascar 2.

I firmly believe that God invented Magic Erasers so that unsupervised toddlers could draw on kitchen walls with crayons.

By 10:30am, I'm usually ready for a glass of wine.

Believe me, Loyals. I do not have it all together.
But I do just try to keep it real.

  1. I can not find the Lime-A-Rita anywhere! I hope to have one by the end of the summer!

Sounds like you have it together to me!

  2. Keep at it mama! You are rocking this sh*t!

One week before Katherine was born, I balled a melon (dirty!) and put it in our basement fridge...I then proceeded to ignore it for EIGHT MONTHS. My guest bathroom tub became a super secret storage area...and still is. My friends tease me about how clean my house is - they obviously aren't looking very closely :)

I really think the mom who has it all together is the one who freely admits she does NOT. There's such freedom in not trying to live up to necessary standards!

    HUGS!

  5. What is that quote, something about not having it together just looking like you do? You pull it off, my friend. That's all that matters, really ;)

  6. If you had time to put rollers in your hair and drink a Lime-a-Rita, then you're not doing too bad.

I hope adjusting to the lack of sleep and extra big baby love is going well.

The carpet might just vaccuum itself... :)

  7. Haha! Appreciate you keeping it real! Just remember -- this time is fleeting and things WILL get easier! :) Good luck, momma!

  8. This truly might be one of my favorite posts. I love it when Moms are honest. I remember thinking it was a GREAT day if I had brushed my teeth before noon when I was on maternity leave. THANK YOU! :)

  9. You are doing what works for you - and that is all you can do! 2 small children can take a LOT of energy! I love the Lime-A-Rita's!!

  10. You're doing great! I'm 11 months into motherhood, and my idea of pulled together is still a (wet) ponytail and clean underwear (TMI). A fancy day might include non-yoga pants!

  11. Well...thanks for busting my bubble Ash! ;) Just kidding! You're doing a great job, even though there are things right now not getting done. What's most important is your boys...and I'm CERTAIN none of them are being mistreated, hungry or attention deprived! At the end of the day, that's really all that matters!!!!!!

  12. Thanks for keeping it real. My guest bed room is still a disaster from all the baby crap Evie has out grown. And she's almost 16 months old. Also, when she was a newborn I am not sure we would have survived without the kindness of people bringing us food. Oh & Dominoes pizza.

  14. I think my favorite part of this (besides the pic) is the part where you're ready for wine at 10:30 am! You're awesome and so are lime-a-ritas!! :)

  15. I love you. When we expand our family you will be coming to teach me the ways to keep it real without losing it. You are awesome. You have it more together than you know.

  16. I heart you, AP. You rock this and look good doing it. Keep it up...and have a few more lime-a-rita's :) Or something a little stronger...

  17. Ohhhh, so you are just like the rest of us ;) I must say you're juggling this mama of two thing pretty well even if you smell like curdled milk by 7 pm. That's just part of the job description at this point, right?

  22. I only have one child and haven't curled my hair, well, ever! And I've been home with a sick child today. It's only 11:00 and I'm about ready to put myself in time out. Or start drinking. This stay at home business is for the birds! So in my book you're doing pretty darn good!

If you start posting crafts and chocolate dipped goodies on IG again though, I'm calling your bluff! Time to bring out the AP clones! :)

  23. That's why we love you - you keep it real! What is real is that you're taking care of two boys under 2 and they are loved and thriving! You're ahead of me - our laundry is clean but piled up on the folding table, not even folded! Cheers to you!

  24. Totally random but what brand curlers you use? Trying to find some I like.

  25. Love your keeping it real posts. They are seriously awesome.

  26. love the honesty! i think too many times people try to cover up the reality and show the fantasy of perfection to others... i certainly don't have it together! thanks for sharing!!

  27. Love the Lime-A-Ritas. They are my new faves. And a messy house and messy attire means you're a good mom. :)

  31. This is freaking awesome. I always feel like I'm the only one that does all those things! I think hubs and I slept in separate rooms for about 4 months after Ben was born, NO LIE. One of us gets a little bitchy without sleep. Okay, I meant him, but I guess I do too :)

I also kept the same pedicure on my toes that I put on a few days before Ben was born in November... until springtime. At that point, it kind of developed its own sentimental value (awww this is the same nail polish I had on my toes when I was in labor!). ;-)

  32. Love this!! And for the lack of sleep I am sure is happening you look fabulous friend!! You got this and pretty soon you'll be adding the hard stuff to the margaritas and things will magically seem easier (at least that's what I do lol) love ya!

  33. Giiirl. I had #2 on 4/6 and I had to go back to work this week. I don't know how any of us do it. Baby Girl is a biggun too and still nurses sometimes three times a night! And it's not like I don't know that babies are capable of sleeping through the night earlier, my first one did, but this one is straight up hungry. Hangry hungry. I wish I could slip her a steak!

  34. You're keeping it real and I love it.
I did a post a while back about the "joys of pregnancy" and then one about having a one week old.
    Good times, good times!

  35. ah.... sounds like you're doing good {and like you're pretty normal} =) I shudder to think of how long it's probably going to be before I do my hair and put makeup on my face after this little one comes...

  36. You're nice to move to the guest room for your husband. Landon slept in a pack n play next to my side of the bed and I nursed him in bed. If my husband didn't like it, he could have gone to the guest room lol. Omg though, I don't miss those 57328463289472839 nursing sessions each night.

You sound like you're doing really well! Having a baby is HARD, and you have 2 kids to take care of now!

  37. This post is like déjà vu to me! Showering after hubby gets home, co-sleeping in guest bedroom, etc, etc...

I'm convinced we never really "have it down" with multiple children. They just learn to keep throwing curve balls ;)

For what its worth...I think you're doing fabulous, momma!!!

  38. Love it and love how you do keep it real! it is what makes you so fun!!

  39. You just made me love you even more. Not sure that was possible! :-)

  40. Haha I love this!!! :) I love how you are so real and do have it all together. Who cares if ya got clothes strung all over the house...your Littles are so well taken care of and you love them to pieces...they are so cute. So happy for you and your family, congrats again on sweet sweet Mac.

  42. Do you know the best part of those Lime-a-rita's are? The alc % by volume. Those little things pack a PUNCH.

Also, I don't have kids and can't manage to find time to do my hair. Clearly you have it more together than me.
