In case you've been living under a rock, it's a new year. Blogger, Facebook and Twitter are all abuzz with everyone's resolutions, goals and plans for 2012. Bombarded with healthy fitness hopes and eating well wishes, I sometimes feel compelled to change. To make a goal or resolution of my own. Even Husband caught a case of the "Resolution-itis" because while unwinding on the couch late last night, he too turned and asked what my goals were for 2012.
I said I didn't have any. And it's the truth. I'm kind of a fly by the seat of my pants kind of girl.
Actually, I do believe I said my goal was to deliver another healthy baby, a goal that was immediately vetoed because I "don't have any control over that."
Hey, you can't say I didn't try, right?
Truth be told, I do have one goal. And it's to make more time for myself. To work determinedly towards setting aside some time each week where I leave my little sidekick behind and spend some time focusing on myself. As much as it twists my mom-heart to do so, I know it's imperative. Sometimes, I can feel small bits of non-mom AP slipping away. Blech. Have I really become that mom? Or rather, MY mom? The one who cast herself aside and focused solely and intently on her children for twenty-eight years?
It certainly appears so.
Although I don't set "resolutions" at the beginning of the year, that doesn't mean I don't accomplish anything. Take for instance launching my own business. I never thought I would do it. I never, ever thought it would take off the way it has. And although I didn't necessarily plan it? It happened. And it's been awesome ever since.
See what I mean? I fly by the seat of my pants.
So, what are your plans (or non-plans!) for the new year? Perhaps I'd love to hear a little inspiration of sorts... Happy Tuesday, Loyals!

I never really make resolutions either but this year I want to lose the remaining baby weight before attempting pregnancy #2/baby #3.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely make time for you..because when #2 is here you are going to want to kick yourself if you don't!
ReplyDeleteThis year I am all about getting healthy on the whole (mind, body & soul) and having my best year yet! After a rough 2011, I need it =)
ReplyDeleteI didn't make a resolution this year either but I also plan on focusing on ME one step at a time.
ReplyDeleteI don't so much have a resolution, but a word. My word for 2012 is POSITIVE. There are so many times I look at the negative of things and I'm not doing it any more. I'm focusing on the positive. I just had a pep rally in my truck on the way to pick up my lunch...and I'm feeling better already!
ReplyDeleteHere's to YOU and spending more time on YOU! And here's to ME, being positive- in every way possible. And being the best ME I can be. I can't be the best anyone BUT ME. So I'll stop focusing on others and what they have!
Love you Ashley!
You're a jewel!
My mom was that mom too!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely make some time for yourself! May of 2011 (when I had a 3 year old & a 1 year old) is when I finally realized i had to carve out some time for myself...whenever it may be....which is when I wake up at 3 am to work out. For me, that is an hour and a half well spent to work on me (and everyone is still asleep).
My goal is to not gain 500 lbs during this pregnancy ;)
ReplyDeletestress less, clean up the house every night so it stays fairly tidy, go on more date nights and spend less money! :)

Happy 2012 friend!
Hey, AP! Question: What iPad app do you use for blogger? Could you email me at holly.j.stanfield@gmail.com? the regular blogger app is for iPhones and isn't working for me. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! I would rather call them goals than resolutions, and I would rather make them when I want, not when the calendar says so! This year I have a personal goal of living more simply. Happy 2012!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.mythreebittles.com/2012/01/ambers-resolution-list-that-needs.html <-- my list.
ReplyDeleteConsists of more time with the kids, less time online (fb and pinterest are my addictions and more time focused on blogging). worrying less and loving more.
I love that attitude! I'm not setting any real goals this year. Love your blog, I had to come to it because my little and I always say I love you more then ice cream. =)
ReplyDeleteNow that I think about it the only one that I even said aloud to my husband that my goal for 2012 was to get pregnant with our second. That's a goal he was happy to support ;)
ReplyDeleteAlso, I would like to really start making a home for myself in the blogging/twitter world. It is something I really Enjoy so ultimately it's something for myself.
I also am a fly by the seat of my pants type person, resolutions never work, I am way too random with things, but like you find myself accomplishing many things without all the hype pf a resolution! Happy 2012 xo
ReplyDeleteMy plans for 2012? To meet you at Blissdom! I can't believe it's so close :)
ReplyDeleteI blogged about my goals for 2012 here, http://notesoflifeandlove.blogspot.com/2011/12/goals-for-new-year.html?m=1
ReplyDeleteI love making lists. So far, I suck at the being healthier bit.
I hate making resolutions. We had to make them in elementary school, and it may have been ten, eleven years since then, but the word "resolutions" still puts a bad taste in my mouth.
ReplyDeleteI did choose a word for the second year in a row. This year's is present. I just want to be present in the moments I'm given with the people I know and love. And I am going to start running tomorrow {I've been thinking about for a while now & January lent itself well to starting} and I am planning also to read the Bible in a year {to which the beginning of a new year also lent itself fantastically}.
I am going the ol' resolution way of getting healthy and losing weight.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you completely on resolutions! The whole concept suggests that you'll fail at it. But this year I did make a mantra for myself, not necessarily because it's a new year, but because we've just settled in a new place, and I want that to represent a positive shift in the way we live.
ReplyDeleteHappy 2012!
I love that you want to be intentional about setting aside time for yourself! It seems like so many moms get swept into life revolving around kiddos. And the truth is that we still need personal time to hold on to our sanity!
