Whoever Called It "Vacation," Musn't Have Had Any Children.

We're home and I'm practically overjoyed at the promise of falling back into our normal daily routine. One that doesn't include constantly redirecting my child from the rusty nail heads poking through the framework of the porch for the 4,785th time. Or making sure that he doesn't run headlong into one of three glass-top tables in the house while attempting to navigate The Bungalow's tiny cozy three rooms of living space at 110mph. A routine that certainly doesn't include desperately trying to get him to fall asleep in a pack and play that is clearly not meant to sleep a toddler of his size.

Vacation? I don't even know what that word means anymore. And believe me, I practically wanted to run up to every skinny, responsibility-free teen and early twenty-something girl laying out on the beach without a care in the world and say, "See? See? This is what happens when you have a baby! There is no reading on the beach. Or laying on your stomach to even out your tan! This is it! So enjoy it now. Or at least marry rich so you can afford to bring along a Beach Nanny."

It was fun. We truly did have a blast. C absolutely loves the beach. And when I say "loves," I mean.. he luuuurves it.

I'm exhausted. I'm more tired now than I was when we left for the beach. How about I let just a few of these pictures do the talking?

Happy Wednesday, Loyals!
Oh, did I mention I met a blog friend while at the beach?
Oh, because I did.
And she's awesome.

I'll tell you all about it on Friday!

  1. I don't have a baby, but even having a 9 year old (or just the husband) makes for a trip instead of a vacation! I like to be sort-of laid back while my husband wants to do everything!! It's exhausting! I love your pictures, though!

  2. What a couple of cuties!

Mamas need a vacation from their vacation...enjoy being HOME :)

Do you and C color coordinate on purpose? Because Kitty and I occasionally do ;)

  4. AGREED! My youngest sister wants to have a baby right after she gets married, and I tell her how things are different.

No more laying out at the pool, reading and getting a tan. Instead, you have to chase around a busy 1 one year old!

No more eating out peacefully at restaurants. Instead, you have to constantly keep your little munchkin happy.

I LOVE my little guy, but he sure is work!

  6. I hear ya! We took Mason to the beach this summer and it was pure work. There was no relaxing for this mama. The pictures are priceless and to know that he loved the beach, means the work was worth it.

    I adore his converse shoes!!

  9. Absolutely NOTHING is relaxing about vacation with a baby/toddler, AT ALL. I come home more tired. More annoyed. Craving our daily "routine" or safe home. Honestly. Its SO overrated. Hence why D & I are taking a real vacation in september. LOL.

  16. Really?! My phone or blogger ate another freaking comment. Gah!

Anyway, I was saying that it's posts like this that make me question whether or not I'm REALLY ready to have a baby. Ha! My only positive is that our beach house will be brand new so hopefully no rusty nails and mil/fil are obsessed w/grandkids so theyll have to fork out the $ to babyproof if they want visitors! ;o) And, we don't lay out on our beaches b/c the Pacific is well, freezing. Lol! So we'll dig for clams and shovel sand OUT of baby mouths! Lol.

  18. Totally agree with this post! Mommies do not get vacations! We did not go away this summer, but I took every Friday off since mid May, with the grand plan of going to the beach those days - ALONE while Tommy was in daycare. Joke is on me - that did not happen. I went to the beach TWO of those days. All the others? Running errands, doing laundry, cleaning the house, grocery shopping...so I did not have to try to do all that on the weekend with the little guy in tow. And yes, I kept Tommy in daycare all of those Fridays just to get all that done. Enjoy your time at home!!!!

  19. I so relate to this. "Vacation with young toddler" really needs to be re-phrased as "working travel". I'm up for that beach nanny to show up any day now.. :-)

  26. Yes vacays are never the same after children...they really shouldn't even be called vacays..maybe something more like "not at my house" lol. Love the pics with you and him on the beach though!

  27. We have a saying around here... With kid(s) it's just a trip... not a vacation.

  35. Oh my goodness! This post was perfect - perfect content, perfect timing... PERFECT! We just got home from a "vacation" on the lake with our 13 month old - E.X.H.A.U.S.T.I.N.G. SOOOO glad to hear that Xan is not the only one "running" full speed into danger (its like he knows its there and cannot resist it
), refusing to sleep in the ever shrinking pack and play, and keeping his parents from lounging in the sun with their forgotten books and guilty pleasure magazines! Thanks for making me feel normal :)
