I Knew I Was Cool When I Had A Pager.

Anyone else remember when. .  .

- back in high school, you used to have wait in line at the pay phone bank so that you could call your Mom and let her know when your extracurriculars let out? Yes, I said pay phone bank.

- you not only used to call your mother collect, but you used to squish the purpose of the call into that tiny little spot reserved for, "state your name, please. . ." As in, "mom, volleyballjustletoutandimgettingapizzawithfriendsbutwillneedyoutocomegetmeinanhour?kay, thanksbye!"

- you thought you were hot stuff because your mother's Lincoln Navigator had a VHS player in the backseat?

- you begged and pleaded for a pager for your 14th birthday? And then you spent the following year saving every single cent of allowance so that you could upgrade your pager a year later and buy the "hippest" model?

- you used to "text-page" your high school boyfriend with an "I Love You" message each night? As in, you dialed his pager number from your landline telephone and paged him with 17*31707*1. A message that, when turned upside down, read "I Love You?"

- you used the biggest round brush Goody ever created to acheive the perfectly rounded poofed out bangs? As well as half a can of Herbal Essence hair spray?

- you had bangs?

- you really were that cool?

  7. Oh YES! Mine was hot pink!

The collect call info was hysterical!! So true!

I'm definitely slightly older than you because I was a freshman in college with the pager rage!

Don't forget the ever popular "911" urgent page.

  8. HA this is hilarious. And yes. I remember! I did page my bf every night with 143 637, I love you always and forever. I did have bangs, and they were pretty awful.

  9. Is it sad that I still wear t-shirts from junior high? From state basketball that say cheerleader on the back? And the fact that Adam's toungue wags when I wear it because it brings him back to his glory days?

  13. Man oh Man. I read the first bullet about the pay phone bank and I thought to myself, "ohmygawsh I remember all the times I called my mom collect and spoke super fast to tell her where to get me" ... and then I kept reading! Ha!

Although, you were clearly MUCH cooler than me. I wanted a pager SO SO bad in middle school but never got one.

But the bangs? Yeah, I had 'em. Or at least, I practiced them ... my older sister and her friends all rocked them so I wanted to be like her ... hours in the bathroom perfecting the pouff.

  15. Oh my! I laughed out loud at work reading this! I have some stellar bangs! Split them in two - curl the top half back and the bottom half forward, ha. I always wanted a pager but my mom said they were for drug dealers...now I have a pager for work - maybe I've turned into a drug dealer??:-)

  19. haha, too funny! Though, I was a super oddity in school. My dad designed cell phones, so I've had one as long as I can remember! They were huge, no one else had one, so it wasn't even fun to call anyone. But it was super fun when someone would call the house and say "can Kassie come play?" and my mom would answer "she's not here, why don't you call her cell phone?" "she has a CELL PHONE??". I liked that part. ;)

  20. O.M.G. I remember ALL of those things! Especially the pager thing! I totally had one and yes, thought I was so cool and felt totally popular whenever I was with a group of friends and it went off and I had to say, "well excuse me now I have to go make a call." Oh my gosh, what a dork I was haha!

  22. Yeah, baby! My dad got me a...well, I don't even know what to call it. Basically a credit card for my collect calls :) My school only had one phone, so there was always a line - like you see in prison movies!
