Dear Inconsiderate Mailman: Ever Hear of Snow Boots?

[Written February 3]

Call me crazy, pregnant and hormonal (go ahead, I'm waiting...) but Mr. Mailman, you are on my shit list. Why? Because of the kind reminder you scribbled on the back of my husband's mail which you then proceeded to place strategically half out of the mailbox so that I wouldn't miss your intended message.

Underneath Mr. Mailman's kind reminder, you will see my written-in-the-heat-of-the-moment reply that I am still unconvinced as to whether or not I will stick it in the mailbox tomorrow. Before I share with you my reply, bear in mind that it snowed approximately one inch overnight and the temperature has been in the mid 40's since I woke up this morning at 8am. There is hardly any snow on the ground, let alone any ice. A dusting, if you will. My reply reads as follows:

Mail Delivery:

Apologies for the unshoveled snow from overnight. I am pregnant, work every day from 5am-6pm and my husband travels out of state for work Monday through Thursday. If you have the phone number of a young child that wouldn't mind shoveling a small stretch of sidewalk for a nice price (or an extra snowblower, even) please do not hesitate to pass it along. Until then, I am really and truly doing my best. Thank you for the note.

Sincerely,

[Our Address]

After careful review and a phone call to Hubs, he suggested that I do not place said letter in the mailbox, as we do enjoy and would like to continue to enjoy receiving our mail in a safe, unthreatening manner. Hmph.

  1. haha I love the note...but it probably is best not to send it. You don't really want a stranger to know that no one is home all day anyways

  2. I would put it in there! Why risk your safety and bambinos safety with slipping on the "ice"?

  3. I would totally leave the note. You aren't really being mean. You are trying to work WITH the mailman to come to a better solution. Duh.

  4. I'd leave the letter if I were you...

  5. even if you don't leave the letter...didn't it feel good writing it?! Sometimes it is good to write a little nasty-gram, even if you don't deliver it!

  6. If it weren't for the fact I'd be afraid Mr. Mailman were a closet serial killer & he would now know that you're husband is hardly ever home, I'd leave the letter. I mean, it's reasonable...

  7. haha! this is hilarious!
don't you love it when people decide to be asses for no good reason?
just ignore it...because really, what's he gonna do? he has to deliver it anyway!

  8. Love your note.
You should call the post office and complain about him. Except that probably wouldn't help either.
    Lame-o mailman.

  9. I think the sweet response was fine, his was a little incosiderate, what if you had plans for the back of that envelope.
As your due date gets closer you will not even consult the hubs on the placement of said note, you will leave it in the box with an extra loud HMPH! ~:)

  10. That is super frustrating. You should call the post office and report the issue. He should not be writing notes to you on your mail. Not right at all.

  11. DUDE--you SHOULD have sent that...I actually don't think it was rude at ALL...seriously! And hello!? We live near eachother and in NO WAY was that a lot of snow! hahaha

  12. umm that's ridiculous he doesn't know your circumstances so not cool but I agree with others that I probably wouldn't send the note :p Hope your mailman shapes up.

  13. my hub would have said the exact same thing. wtf mailman, don't write on peoples mail! i agree, you should call the post office. ps- your "bump" is so darling!!

  14. I kind of agree with the others, although a little voice in my head is saying you should have left him the note!!
When we had a little snow our postmen here in England were told not to come out and deliver! Ridiculous xx

  16. I'd totally leave the letter. HAHAH! but I'm just rude like that. If he had the balls to say that to you, he should see it comin' :)

plus, what a pansy for complaining about 1" of snow!

  18. haha I love it. I would have said something. I wouldnt say that your husband is out of town alot though just in case he gets angry and goes crazy haha

  19. wow! since when is is YOUR responsibility to clear the snow for the mail man? I would give give the letter if it weren't for letting him know your husband is gone through the week and that you are gone so long during the day. He is a jerk for leaving that and lord knows he's probably a creep! :)

  20. i like your note too but you never know if the mailman had a REALLY bad day...like falling a time or two or three.

your hubs knows best. good weather's on the way. :) maybe leave a bag of candy to sweeten him up?

we rarely go out our front door since we come in through the garage.

  21. Yeah, I'm not pregnant and I totally would have left that note!!

  22. thats crazy! you should add a p/s and tell him that maybe it's time to contemplate a new career if he's scared of ice/snow!

  23. I'd leave it! Postal service workers VOW to work through the snow, rain, blah, blah... There's no reason for complaint. Our mailman walks through inches of snow even if sidewalks are shoveled because he cuts through the yards! Your mailman sounds like an ass!

  24. I am dying over this!! And seriously with the way my hormones have been this past week I WOULD have placed that in there. But I get what you are saying - if for some reason my US Weekly started disappearing - I'd be really irate!
