Morning Crankster.

I can't go ahead and say that I am officially a morning person. I do not loathe mornings, but I do not love them either. But I manage. As a nurse, I don't have a choice. Both my job and Sullivan demand early morning wake-up calls. How early? We're talking in the realm of 5am every single day. But I'm not complaining! It's how I live. I wake up, let Sully out to piddle, let him back in, serve him his breakfast and hop in the shower. I get dressed, I primp and preen and I'm back out the door with Sullivan for his morning walk up and down the street. I grab a granola bar, settle Sully into his room with a handful of kibble and I'm out the door by 6:15am. This is our routine. For the most part it's seamless. It's efficient. It ingrained into our two brains and really requires little to no thinking on our parts. It's like waking up on Automatic.

[Enter Hubs into our seamless, efficient little morning routine]

Hubs is home for the week, working remotely from the Philadelphia office. Needless to say I am stoked that we'll be spending all week together, you know, like a normal married couple. Commuting home together from the city, cooking dinner together, etc. It's something I've been looking forward to for years. It's the perks of those days inbetween projects. Home from Harrisburg and gearing up for... well, we don't know yet. But that's okay. I'll take what I can get and relish in the few days of having him home.

Except maybe in the mornings. Our seamless, efficient, quiet routine? Greeted by Hubs and his darling smiling face at 5:30am, in the kitchen, half dressed for work, lights on, brewing coffee, packing lunches and tidying up the kitchen. Woah.

Talk about sensory overload. Hubs, I know you mean well and I'm so excited to dive into my lunch later today, packed with lots of love (and nutritous snacks and possibly one food item from every block on the food pyramid), but holy cow.. It's all a little too much for me and my simple little morning routine! I know I grumbled a lot, and huffed and puffed and maybe even sighed once or twice and I'm sorry. I promise not to be such a crankster tomorrow morning. And maybe one day this week, I'll even pack a little lunch for you.

I just need a little time to.. adjust.
To rub the sleep out of my eyes.
To... wake up and smell the coffee. Which was delicious, by the way.

  1. Aww this was a cute post. I bet it is strange when you have such a routine that works well for you and then someone pops in to shake it up. At least you got coffee!

  3. I'm sure having him around is SO much better than being alone, even if the efficiency breaks down a bit!

  5. My husband works 10 24 hour shifts a month at the Firehouse so needless to say he is home a lot. My days when he is home it is so much easier to get out of the house. It is also way easier to keep the house clean when he is gone.

  7. I am so not a morning person too. The few times I'm awake (and really awake) the same time as Husby, he loves it. I usually make him breakfast. He calls me Stepford.

  8. Sounds like me and my hubby...except reversed. I'm the morning person...he's the one scowling at me to stop being so chipper. Haha.

  9. It took a while, but Mr. Perfect has learned that anything said or done by me before 7 in the am will not hold up as ammo later! We *I* do not do mornings. I appreciate his efforts, but bring 'em on at night!!
